Reflecting peace, with help from the leaves

Nature thrives on simple recipes for great beauty, and Saturday was no exception. After a fairly sweltering June, the humidity gave way recently, offering up a calm, cool start to the weekend — but with some movement in the air at times.

Indeed, Saturday’s breeze was a welcome visitor, but, as it moved through the tree branches, it created a stunning sight that calms the soul: the leaves, swaying in the wind and glimmering in the sun as they move.

Just stopping for a moment to watch the leaves dance was a time of precious stillness, and complete peace. They moved randomly, but also in harmony with each other. It was clear that this inspiration wasn’t just for me — it was for everyone, anywhere, who was watching such a peaceful display take place.

The swaying leaves captured my attention for not only for their physical beauty, but for their meaning. They were one glimmering reflection of the natural goodness in the world, available to us all, every moment. Like these joyous leaves basking in sun, we, too, are ever-capable of taking in the light of good and gracefully moving ahead, despite whatever headwinds confront us. There will be challenges, but in this world, we’re surrounded by others who are reflecting that same goodness and looking for that light. And we’re always capable of reflecting and sharing it for the benefit of all.
