Safe within a community’s care

Today’s weather events are presenting great challenges for our community. It was dark, but as the floodwaters rose, the community did, too. Many of our neighbors are affected directly or indirectly by this event. From the emergency shelters to neighbors reaching out to each other, there were many examples of the community working to support itself through this difficult time.

In the coming days and weeks, many people and businesses will need help. As the flooding continues outside, I am focusing on getting quiet and acknowledging the good that this community represents and knowing that this goodness will light the way to the sense of comfort many now need.

Of course, a day like today shakes us to our core and makes us question what can be done. But our community has shined in difficult times, and now is another moment to see that support at work for the greater good. The fact is, that even the simplest words of encouragement in a moment of fear can uplift someone when they need it most. The outstretched arms of love are still encircling our community, every day. The strongest and most timely comfort comes sincerely from one heart to another. That network of goodness and love remains strong now, and it will sustain us moment by moment.
